Simon Butteriss has sung rôles at La Scala, the Paris Châtelet, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the English and Welsh National Operas, Almeida Opera, Bregenz Festspiele, Wiener Festwochen and Aldeburgh. He has played the Gilbert and Sullivan patter rôles at the Savoy Theatre and throughout the world. He has also worked extensively as an actor (Royal Shakespeare Company, West End, and Mike Leigh’s Oscar-winning Topsy-Turvy). Television credits range from By the Sword Divided to French and Saunders’s Let Them Eat Cake. A writer and translator for stage and screen, his credits include the new play for Britten’s Let’s Make an Opera and the critically acclaimed television films A Salaried Wit (in which he also plays George Grossmith) and A Gooseberry Fool.
