The Deutsche Radio Philharmonie (DRP) is one of the largest radio symphony orchestras of the ARD, the German association of public service broadcasters. It was formed in 2007 through the merger of two orchestras, each with its own great tradition—the Saarbrücken Radio Symphony Orchestra (SR) and the Kaiserslautern Radio Orchestra (SWR).
Since 2017, Pietari Inkinen has served as chief conductor, and like his predecessors—the founding chief conductor Christoph Poppen, Karel Mark Chichon and honorary conductor, the late Stanisław Skrowaczewski—Inkinen utilises a diverse repertoire: from key Classical and Romantic works through to new discoveries, rediscoveries and contemporary music, as well as the symphonic works of Jean Sibelius and contemporary Finnish music. In addition, the orchestra has recorded cycles of symphonies by Dvořák and Prokofiev.
The DRP regularly performs at its home sites of Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern, and gives guest performances in neighbouring France as well as in Mainz, Karlsruhe, Mannheim and Baden-Baden. The Orchestra has toured Switzerland, Poland, China and Japan in recent years, and is a regular guest in South Korea. www.drp-orchester.de
