Carmelo Corrado Caruso started his singing studies under the guidance of R. Federighi. After graduating at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, he specialised with L. Bettarini and Bianca Maria Casoni. He was the winner of numerous international competitions, including the Concorso As.Li.Co. and the Concorso Pergolesi di Roma (1984), the Prize for Young Singers from the Lirica Arena di Verona (1985), the Concorso Briccialdi in Terni (1986/7) and the Concorso Viotti (1990) in Vercelli. He made his operatic débuts in Mayr’s L’amor coniugale (1984) and Mozart’s Don Giovanni (1985) at the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo. Since then he has sung many bel canto rôles in some of the most important Italian and foreign theatres.
His repertoire includes more than forty rôles, ranging from Monteverdi to Henze. During his career he has had the chance to collaborate with conductors of the highest distinction and to sing in the most prestigious Italian opera houses, including La Scala, the Teatro Regio in Torino, the Bologna Comunale, in Parma and Florence, Palermo, Catania, at the San Carlo in Naples, La Fenice in Venice and many others, as well as abroad at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Semper Oper in Dresden, and in Brussels, Amsterdam, Valencia, Zurich, Seoul, Tokyo, Otzu, Kiev and elsewhere.
