Sten Byriel trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Aarhus and the Opera Academy in Copenhagen. He made his debut as Papageno in Mozart’s The Magic Flute in 1985, and since then has been engaged as a soloist at the Royal Theatre, Copenhagen, where his roles have included Mozart characters such as Figaro and Dr. Bartolo in The Marriage of Figaro, Leporello and the Commandant in Don Giovanni, and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte. He has also sung Henrik in Carl Nielsen’s Masquerade, Colline in Puccini’s La Bohème, Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen, Dulcamara in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, the Grand Inquisitor and the Monk in Verdi’s Don Carlos and Osmin in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
