In 1984 Lani Poulson won the s’Hertogenbosch Competition, then appearing as Charlotte in Werther in Karlsruhe, as Carmen, and as Octavian. Guest performances took her to Hamburg as Cherubino, with Octavian in Dresden and Brussels, The Composer at the Berlin State Opera, Clairon in Capriccio in Strasbourg and Countess Geschwitz in Lulu in Brussels. She sang Dorabella in Montpellier, Sesto in Drottningholm, Frankfurt and Dresden, Idamante in Tel Aviv, and in Brussels Ramiro in a production of La finta giardiniera, also seen in Salzburg, Amsterdam, Antwerp and New York. In Stuttgart she has appeared as Andromeda in Sciarrino’s Perseus and Andromeda, in Riehm’s Das Schweigen der Sirenen, as Lucia in Cavalleria rusticana, Mrs Begbick in Auftstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny, and Sesto in La clemenza di Tito. In 1999 she sang Herodias in Graz and also appeared as The Mother in Al gran sole.
