German tenor Werner Hollweg studied singing in Detmold, Lugano and Munich, and made his debut at the Vienna Chamber Opera in 1962. He was a recurring guest at the Salzburger Festspiele for over twenty years, working with conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Otto Klemperer. He was considered a specialist for Mozart, but also performed art songs (lieder) and concerts. His discography is impressive, though relatively few of his recordings are available these days. Later, he also worked as a director and received a professorship at the Freiburg University of Music.
