Born in New Brandenburg, Britta Schwarz began her vocal training at the Hans Eisler Musikhochschule in Berlin with Christa Niko, then moving to Dresden to study with Christian Elßner and Hartmut Zabel. She then undertook a four-year engagement at the studio of the Dresden Semperoper. She has collaborated in many concerts with distinguished orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Dresden, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Stuttgart Philharmonic, Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields and with conductors including Michel Plasson, Helmuth Rilling, Marek Janowski, and Philippe Herreweghe. She has appeared in concerts and Lieder recitals in most European countries, Canada, Japan and in the United States. She has appeared in international festivals, including the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, the Utrecht Festival for Early Music, the Dresden Musikfestspiele and the Blyth Valley Chamber Music Festival in England.
Her interest in baroque music has brought invitations from leading baroque ensembles, including the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Cantus Cölln, Musica Antiqua Köln and the Berlin Akademie für Alte Musik, as well as a fruitful association with musicians such as Reinhard Göbel, Marcus Creed, Gustav Leonhardt and Ludger Rémy. Her multifaceted musical career is reflected in a number of broadcasts and recordings.
