Born in Unna (Germany) in 1971, the conductor Sebastian Tewinkel started his violin and general music studies at the Hanover University of Music and Drama. He then continued his studies at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts with Thomas Ungar, graduating with distinction. He also attended master classes with Gianluigi Gelmetti and Sir Colin Davis, and won a scholarship from the Herbert von Karajan Foundation of Berlin. In 2000 he was awarded 1st Prize at the International Conducting Competition of the Fundação Oriente in Lisbon, and in 2001 he won the Conductors’ Award in Bad Homburg.

At an early age, Tewinkel has already worked with the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, the NDR Radio Philharmonic of Hanover, the Halle Philharmonic State Orchestra, the Sofia Symphony Orchestra and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. He has also toured extensively throughout Europe, Russia and Japan.
