Admired for his versatility, range and dramatic power, British tenor John Daszak made his operatic debut at English National Opera as Števa (Jenůfa) after graduating from London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music and Italy’s Accademia d’Arte Lirica. Now enjoying a vibrant international opera career, Daszak made his Teatro Real debut with the role of Gustav von Aschenbach.
Key roles include Captain Vere (Billy Budd) at The Metropolitan Opera, Grishka Kuter’na (The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh) at Dutch National Opera, Tambour-Major (Wozzeck) at both the Berlin Staatsoper and the Salzburg Festival, Aron (Moses und Aron), Sergei (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk District) at English National Opera, Loge (Das Rheingold) at the Bayreuth Festival, Herod (Salome) at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. A regular presence on the stage of the Bayerische Staatsoper, appearances there include Zemlinsky’s Der Zwerg, the Witch (Hänsel und Gretel), Robert Scott (South Pole) and as Alviano Salvago in Schreker’s Die Gezeichneten.
