Born in Vienna, Johannes Fottinger trained as a lyric tenor. He has given concerts and recitals in Austria, Germany, Russia and the USA. His rôles include Smetana’s The Bartered Bride (Hans), Verdi’s Rigoletto (Duke) and Flotow’s Martha (Lyonel). With pianopianissimo he has sung in Strauss’ Die Perlen der Cleopatra (Belladonis), in Siegried Wagner’s Der Schmied von Marienburg (Martin) and in Richard Wagner’s Tannhauser (Walter von der Vogelweide). He can be seen on DVD in Siegfried Wagner’s Der Kobold (Fink) [Marco Polo 2.220003–04] and heard on CD in Siegfried Wagner’s Banadietrich (Etzel and Bursche) [Marco Polo 8.223895–96], and Der Schmied von Marienburg (Martin) [Marco Polo 8.225346–48].
