María José Moreno studied at the Escuela Superior de Música de Canto in Madrid and made her début in 1996 in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Since then she has appeared in leading opera houses in Spain and Europe such as the Vienna State Opera and La Scala, Milan, and at the Mozart Festival in La Coruña, under conductors including Colin Davis, Alberto Zedda, Richard Bonynge, Rinaldo Alessandrini and Jesús López-Cobos. In 1997 she won the Francisco Viñas Competition and in 1999 the Barcelona Critics’ Prize for her performance of Adina in Donizetti‘s L’elisir d’amore. Her repertoire includes operas by Mozart, Bellini, Donizetti, Offenbach and Puccini, with Rossini rôles such as Fiorilla (Il Turco in Italia), Contessa di Folleville (Il viaggio a Reims) and Amenaide (Tancredi). Her recordings include Nannetta in Colin Davis’s GRAMMY^® award-winning Falstaff and rôles in Don Giovanni and Demetrio e Polibio.
