The chamber orchestra “arcata stuttgart” was founded in 1984 by Patrick Strub together with nineteen young, professional string players. Through its spirited and stylishly secure performances, this dynamic ensemble has played its way into the hearts of its audience. The orchestra rouses enthusiasm with its graceful flexibility, technical precision, and characteristic sound. Its repertoire encompasses a wide spectrum from the early Baroque up to contemporary music.
Meanwhile, “arcata stuttgart” has given more than 350 concerts under its conductor Patrick Strub. With its successes, it has secured itself a prominent place in the musical life of the state capital Stuttgart and the surrounding regions. Besides this intensive concert activity above all in southern Germany, the orchestra has undertaken extensive tours in Europe (Portugal 1988, Spain 1991 and 1995, Switzerland 1992 and 1994), America 1987, Asia 1985, and Australia 1985 “arcata stuttgart” has made guest appearances at important international music festivals in Hong Kong, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Wellington, and Como, at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, the Zeltmusikfestival in Freiburg, the European Music Festival in Stuttgart, the Mozart Festival in Augsburg, as well as at the Castle Festival in Schwetzingen and the Rheingau Music Festival. The South German Radio (SR) regularly invites the chamber orchestra “arcata stuttgart” to do productions.
“arcata stuttgart” has made a CD recording of Ch. Willibald Gluck’s ballet ‘Don Juan’ for Bayer Records. A highly regarded recording of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and his Chamber Symphony in C Minor op. 110 has been issued by Hänssler Verlag. (hänssler CD 98.917) and Schubert, Ouverture D8 in c minor/String Quartet in d minor D810 ‘Death and the Maiden’ (hänssler CD 98.160). “arcata stuttgart” performs with such renowned soloists as Daniel Adni (piano), Wolfgang Bauer (trumpet), Isabelle Faust (violin), Kerstin Feltz (violoncello), Reinhold Friedrich (trumpet), Rudolf Gleissner (violoncello), Konradin Groth (trumpet), Christiane Jaccottet (harpsi-chord), Diethelm Jonas (oboe), Ewa Kupiec (piano), Ulrike Anima Mathé (violin), Eugene Mursky (piano), Marietta Petkova (piano), Stefan Schilli (oboe), and Tabea Zimmermann (viola).
