Born in Bucharest, Andrei Ioniță first took cello lessons in his hometown with Ani-Marie Paladi and studied with Jens Peter Maintz at the Berlin University of the Arts from 2012. He received formative musical impulses from David Geringas, Steven Isserlis, Heinrich Schiff and Gary Hoffman, among others. In 2014 he performed in Kronberg with Gidon Kremer and Christian Tetzlaff at ‘Chamber Music Connects the World’.

Andrei Ioniță has won several prizes at major international competitions, including the ARD Music Competition in 2014, the Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann in Berlin and the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2016. In 2016 he was selected as a BBC New Generation Artist.

Andrei Ioniță has appeared at Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonie and other concert halls.

The Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben is providing him with a violoncello by Giovanni Battista Rogeri (Brescia 1671).
