Spanish conductor, Guillermo García Calvo, made his opera debut in 2003 with a performance of Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel at the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn in Vienna. He has since led the Wiener Staatsoper in over two hundred performances, including Die Zauberflöte, La traviata and Lucia di Lammermoor.
He has been a regular guest conductor at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he has conducted, among others, La Cenerentola and Carmen. He has also led performances of Nabucco, La Bohème and I puritani at the Aalto-Musiktheater Essen.
He has worked with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orquestra Sinfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya and the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern.
In 2017 Calvo was the recipient of the Leonardo da Vinci World Award of Arts, and was named Best Artist at the Codalario Music Awards 2013. He was the Generalmusikdirektor of the Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie at the Theater Chemnitz for the 2017–18 season.
