Luís Tinoco studied at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa and at the Royal Academy of Music in London. More recently, he completed his PhD (composition) at the University of York, in the UK. Since 2000 he has worked as a freelance composer and as author and producer of new music radio programmes for Antena 2 / RTP. He also lectures at the Escola Superior de Música in Lisbon, where he is also the vice-principal. Tinoco’s recent compositions include stage works such as Evil Machines (2008), a music theatre project with libretto and stage direction by the former Monty Python Terry Jones, and Paint Me (2010), a chamber opera with libretto by Stephen Plaice. Other recent projects include Wanderings of the Solitary Dreamer (2011), a cantata with text by Almeida Faria and two new orchestral works commissioned by Radio France and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. Tinoco’s music is published in the UK by the University of York Music Press.
