Born in Heidelberg, the tenor Heinz Göhrig studied at the Mannheim State Hochschule for Music and the Performing Arts and joined Stuttgart Opera in 1988, named Chamber Singer in 1998.

His Stuttgart roles have included Dancaïro (Carmen), Altoum (Turandot), Cassio (Otello), Dr Suda (Osud), Pedrillo (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Pietro (Die Gezeichneten) and Mime (Siegfried). Other roles have included the tenor in Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali, Hauk Schendorf (The Makropulos Case), Beelzebub/A Student (Doktor Faust) and Governor (Simplicius Simplicissimus).

More recent roles include Melot (Tristan und Isolde), Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte), Goro (Madama Butterfly) and the Madman (Wozzeck).

Guest engagements have taken him to the Bavarian State Opera, to Bonn, and as Scaramuccio in Wieler/Morabito’s Ariadne auf Naxos in 2001 to the Salzburg Festival. In Stuttgart he has also sung Spoletta (Tosca), Basilio (Le nozze di Figaro), Sir Bruno Robertson (I puritani), Mercure (Orphée aux enfers) and Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte).
