The Dutch soprano, Eva-Maria Westbroek, studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and was coached by Iris Adami Corradetti and James McCray, who is still her vocal mentor. She was a prizewinner at an international singing competition in Rome and made her professional debut as Tosca at the Teatro Manzoni in Milan.
She started her career at the Komische Opera Berlin and Oper Stuttgart, where she was honoured with the title of Kammersängerin. Westbroek has sung at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Opéra national de Paris, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Bayerische Staatoper, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the festivals of Bayreuth, Aix-en-Provence and Salzburg. She has also given concerts in Barcelona, Prague and Berlin. Since autumn 2014 she has been an ambassador for Musicians Without Borders.
