The soprano Alex Penda studied in Sofia, going on to win various international competitions. She has appeared in many major opera houses, including those in Rome, Naples, Turin, Trieste, Monte Carlo, Houston, Bregenz and Hamburg, and at the Pesaro Rossini Opera Festival. Her rôles have included Donna Anna (Lausanne, Houston, Lisbon, Prague), Madama Cortese in Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims (La Monnaie, Brussels), the title rôle of Semiramide at the Paris Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Ermione and La donna del lago in New York, Fiorilla in Il Turco in Italia at the Munich Bavarian State Opera and at the Berlin State Opera.
