Mikhail Gubsky was born in Magnitogorsk, Russia and graduated from Samara Technical University in 1993 and Samara Academia of Arts in 1997. From 1994 he was a soloist of the Samara Opera Theatre, and from 1997 a soloist of Moscow’s Novaya Opera Company. Since 2001 he has also been appearing at the Bolshoy Theatre, with rôles ranging from Lensky in Eugene Onegin to the Captain in Wozzeck. Engagements abroad have taken him to America and Canada and to venues throughout Europe. Since 2007 he has been artistic director of the Samara Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
