The tenor Sung-Keun Park studied at Yon-Sei University in his native Seoul prior to continuing his vocal training from 1996 to 2000 at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. In 1994 he won the vocal competition of the San Francisco Opera Center and in 1996 he was a prize-winner of the Jung-Ang Vocal Competition in Korea. As a participant in Münchner Singschul’ 2000 Sung-Keun Park worked with Eberhard Büchner and Marcello Viotti. In the same year he became a member of the ensemble of Theater Freiburg, where among the rôles he sang were Mozart’s Ferrando and Tamino, Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), and Lenski (Eugene Onegin). As a guest he appeared as Idomeneo in Oldenburg, as Paris in Offenbach’s Belle Hélène in Kassel, and as Edgardo in Heilbronn. At the same time he was becoming known in Baroque repertoire. He sang Lurcanio in Ariodante with great success and recently appeared as Teseo in Benedetto Marcello’s Arianna. In 2002 he also participated in a Mozart programme with Edita Gruberova and the oboist Heinz Holliger at Zurich Opera. Since the 2008–09 season Sung-Keun Park has been a member of the ensemble of the Hanover Staatsoper, appearing there as Belmonte, Lindoro (L’Italiana in Algeri), and as Vetter Franz in Edward Rushton’s Fromme Helene.
